Air Freight – Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about our air cargo service.
How is air freight cost calculated?
Pricing is based on the chargeable weight, the higher of actual weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight formula: L × W × H (cm) / 6000. Airlines may round up to the next 0.5–1 kg.
What documents do I need?
Commercial Invoice, Packing List, shipper/consignee details, HS code; if applicable: Certificate of Origin, MSDS for DG, temperature instructions, and any import permits.
How long does air freight take?
Airport-to-airport is usually 1–5 days depending on route. Door-to-door adds pick-up, export/import customs, and last-mile delivery.
Can you handle dangerous goods (DGR)?
Yes, per IATA DGR. Provide UN number, class/division, packing instruction, and valid MSDS/SDS. Airline pre-approval is required.
What can’t be shipped by air?
Restrictions vary by country/airline (e.g., certain lithium batteries, flammables, aerosols, perishables without proper packaging, counterfeit/sanctioned goods). Share HS code/MSDS for compliance check.
Which Incoterms work best for air freight?
EXW/FCA (buyer controls export & main carriage), CIP (seller books freight & insurance), DAP/DDP (seller delivers at destination; DDP includes duties/taxes).
Do I need cargo insurance?
Yes—carrier liability is limited by international conventions (per-kg limits). We recommend all-risk cargo insurance for full value protection.
What’s the size/weight limit?
It depends on aircraft and ULD/pallet type. Oversize/heavy cargo may require freighter or charter. Share exact dimensions and piece count for stowability check.
How should I pack?
Use export-grade cartons/crates, internal cushioning, and stackable pallets. Label each piece with shipper/consignee, piece count, gross weight, and dimensions.
Can you ship perishable/temperature-controlled goods?
Yes—active/passive solutions (thermal blankets, gel packs, active containers) with priority handling and temperature-specific routing.
How can I reduce air freight cost?
Optimize dimensions, consolidate, be flexible on dates/airlines, choose airport-to-airport when feasible, and avoid peak seasons.
What tracking/POD do I receive?
You’ll get HAWB/MAWB and milestone updates (departed/arrived/cleared). We issue POD after delivery along with billing documents.
